In the most wonderful way, Svøbsk and Lunau&Sund intertwine old Nordic Christmas hymns and songs and folk music pieces together and unite them in both a traditional and modern expression. This makes the hymns and songs bloom in an evocative bouquet of joy, warm solemnity and celebration. The four musicians have a wide-ranging ballast in church music, folk music, choir and rock/pop. Together, they deliver a terrifically beautiful, professional and heartwarming concert that makes the Christmas spirit spread. The musicians in Lunau&Sund and Svøbsk live in the same small Funen village – Davinde. With 500 meters between their half-timbered houses, this musical meeting has matured over many years. They mix the sound of their two duos and interpret the good Christmas hymns and songs in a both traditional and modern expression that leaves the audience with a smile on their face and warmth in their hearts.
For 20 years, Svøbsk has honed their empathetic ensemble playing, released 6 albums and based on Funen played a sea of concerts at home and abroad. Throughout their careers, they have been nominated for several DMA awards. In 2023, they received a DMA statuette as the Roots Name of the Year. The concept of lifting the legacy of former fiddlers and women in a balancing act between tradition and renewal has proven sustainable. Svøbsk represents, if anything, the popular Danish musical tradition.
Lunau & Sund specialises in a captivating fusion of Nordic songwriting traditions, intertwined with folk and Americana influences, which they call “Nordicana”. Their music – they have released 6 albums – exudes a contemplative Nordic sensibility, beautifully complemented by their evocative Danish lyrics. They write strong, simple songs, a special art form, and at the moment there are few on the songwriting scene in Denmark who do this as well as Lunau&Sund.
